My Experience with Bobby's Myth
My experience with creating my own myth was very fun and insightful. I have really admired the study of mythology, so being able to craft my own was a new way of enjoying the realm of mythology. What I found to be interesting was the way that one must think when creating a myth. For my myth, I discussed how bobbleheads were created. I had to come up with a story that was interesting enough to keep the reader entertained while being clever enough to have it make sense (while feeling organic and not forced). I feel that overall, I did a good job of that, but it definitely took a while to get it to my liking. I think that creating the myth and reading the myth differ for the main reason that one is consumption and the other is creation. While that is a bit obvious, it is hard not to mention it because that is exactly what comes to mind. I feel that I could use this in my future teaching life because I think that by having students create their own form of written media, they can learn a lot about it. It takes a great understanding of how these media work to develop their own idea and have the creative freedom to do so. I think that having your own topic to choose from can be very helpful because it is more meaningful to the individual who is creating the story. Overall, I found this assignment to be very helpful because it was challenging but helped me to truly understand what it takes to create a myth.

Hi Samuel,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading this blog. I liked how you pointed out that the study of myth and creating a myth is different because you are consuming knowledge when learning about a myth and being creative when creating one of your own. In my blog post, I mentioned the use of storytelling when creating a myth. It really forces you to create a story that is meaningful enough for the reader to be engaged and you mentioned how that was part of your journey in creating the story of Bobby. Yes, this is a great way for students to be engaged in media driven assignments, and also a great way for them to stay creative and use their own unique individual minds. I agree, giving students the freedom to choose their very own topics can ultimately make the experience a lot more meaningful. The assignment was challenging in a way that was different for me, my biggest obstacle when creating my myth was how i was going to incorporate real life modern issues into my story, that itself took a lot of brainstorming.
